The Way of the Cross Memorial Gardens opens at Rookwood

Take a journey of contemplation down the beautifully designed Way of the Cross Memorial Garden. It commences with a meeting area and seats, adjacent to Station No. 1. of the Way of the Cross. Follow the watercourse as it meanders up the cemetery lawn entwined by a formal pathway, complete with foot bridges, allowing access to each of the Stations.
The calming sound of flowing water can be heard throughout the gardens providing a special place for quiet reflection and the commemoration of a loved one. Memorials for Cremated Remains will be nestled naturally amongst the lush gardens and tranquil ponds.
Catholic Cemeteries & Crematoria Way of the Cross Memorial Garden is a contemporary religious artwork. It took 4 years to quarry the 15 South Australian granite stones, which still display the marks made by mining.
The sculptures began with original artwork by Ingrid Morley, prepared in clay and bronze casting via "the lost wax method". In an ongoing mission to protect and foster our cemeteries, this major development includes disabled access and storm water will be harvested via underground tanks.
